Bio

A profile photo This is the portfolio/blog page for Maurizio Tatafiore, also known somewhere as Caran Elmoth. I’m an Italian game programmer and had my first contact with computer games at the early age of four, when my brother recklessly gave me the Vic20 joystick (it was this game). I never gave it back. A few years later I started digging into the C64 basic, and that was the beginning of the end. Since then I studied Amos and C on the Amiga and then moved to the PC world. In the meantime I grew up (somewhat) and signed for the Computer Science course at the University of Salerno, where I took my degree in 2004 with a thesis experimenting with behavioral models implementation on the first programmable GPUs by nVidia.

After a brief time working as a programmer at Isislab in the University of Salerno, I cut my teeth at SpinVector, a small dynamic company based in Benevento, where I did game logic programming, UI programming, prototyping and tools programming.

In 2015 I co-founded Hypothermic and worked with them until early 2017.

I’m now working as a freelancer and my main client is InnerVoid Interactive, I also like to experiment with game design and programming in whatever little spare time I have.

A little monomaniacal, you say? Well this isn’t all about me. Somehow I found the time to have a social life too, and now I have a wonderful wife, two cats and since 2019 I’m the incredibly proud dad of Andrea, a beautiful, smart and energic boy. I like reading (mostly narrative) and listening to music (old school rock and prog, electronic, jazz, classic and some high level pop). I practiced the beautiful art of Aikido for many years, although I had to stop a while ago. These days I like running and exercising as much as I can. Oh… and sometimes I try to sleep, too.
